The running theme of the Royal Geographical young explorers night this year seemed to be stopped working, went on an adventure. 60 seems a good age to retire from being an employee. Mindful of lots of recommendations about the benefits of staying active, physically and mentally, I can now embark on the 60at60 challenges.
The career started with N and D Jones a local landscaping firm in Liverpool then a spell being out of work and volunteering with meals on wheels before stepping on to the first rung of the municipal ladder with Maidstone Borough Council (Technical Assistant - Parks). Then followed Basildon District Council (Technical Officer -Trees); Bromley Council (Tree Officer); Swale Borough Council (Parks Manager); Greenwich Council (Grounds Maintenance Manager to Senior Assistant Director Environment); Medway Council (Assistant Director Front line Task Force); Lambeth Council (Divisional Director - Public Realm); Harrow Council (Divisional Director - Environment; Keep Britain Tidy (Wastewatch Manager); Living Streets (Strategy Manager); The Conservation Volunteers (Operations Leader), which brings us up to date (or back near the beginning?).... out of work and volunteering.
